.Daydream Island is just one of many island resorts that can be accessed within a short ferry ride making it a popular and convenient choice for visitors to the Whitsunday region. The island is home to the Daydream Island Resort and Spa and is surrounded by natural rainforest scenery and tranquil fringing reefs and secluded beaches.
The Whitsundays is comprised of a collection of 74 islands and Daydream Island is one of the smallest in size but large in what it offers as a holiday destination. Although the island operates as a commercial resort with over 300 rooms you will still be able to find your own space to relax and unwind in the sparkling bays and beaches around the island.
What sets this island resort apart from the others is their signature living coral reef and the enthusiasm of staff to educate guests about marine biology and the fragile eco-systems of the reef. The crystal clear waters, exotic rainforest and colourful coral reefs make Daydream Island a one of a kind destination to experience the Great Barrier Reef.
To reach Daydream Island you can travel by ferry from Airlie Beach or arrive in style in a scenic flight from Hamilton Island Airport. Once you arrive the picturesque beaches will instantly put you in holiday mode and entice you to jump in and explore the underwater world that exists.
There is a large range of water sports on offer at the resort as well as the numerous bars and restaurants showcasing local produce, fresh seafood and cocktails. Due to its close location it can be an ideal day trip or holiday destination for your family and friends. You can also use this island as the ideal base to venture further afield to island hop, dive and snorkel the outer fringing reefs or take in some deep sea fishing or sailing amongst the island.
A scenic helicopter flight over the reef comes highly recommended as you can get a much better understanding for the scale of the reef from up above. You will also see the most popular and spectacular reef of them all, Heart Reef.
To get up and close with the marine life and find Nemo then a day cruise to the Hardy Reef platform for a snorkel or dive should be on your to do list. The outer reef platform also offers an underwater viewing platform, which is great for those who aren’t comfortable swimmers but still wish to experience the reef. Some cruise operators also have glass bottom boat tours with marine biologists who can explain the different types of marine life you are viewing.
The resort currently has 300 rooms including 9 luxurious suites, standard ocean view, garden view and family rooms. Visitors can also enjoy a cocktail or two at the many restaurants and bars. Other island activities include a kids club, and open- air cinema, a putt putt golf course and the use of resort kayaks, paddleboards and snorkelling gear. As the resort is currently closed due to development it is unknown what facilities will change or be added in addition to their current offerings but they are expected to welcome visitors again in 2018.
